Independence Day

We had a nice holiday despite the emotional cloud of Mom's illness and the very real darkness 5 pm the rain was coming down and we had to move the "pool party" inside. We tried to make the best of it but the day was bittersweet, Mom's absence deeply felt. Friends brought the fresh fruit that was usually her contribution. My girls gathered around the dining room table late into the evening making pearl bracelets to symbolize lung cancer awareness. The boys in the family brought out a guitar and started an impromptu jam session, music mixed with laughter and friendly chatter. We ate, we drank, we celebrated life and love and independence, maybe a bit more appreciative of each other, even more grateful to be together.

Rapunzel, I posted a Native American prayer/meditation the other date, that I thought you might like to read and say for your Mom (also for my friend Robbin who is battling cancer right now too.) I don't know if you've been by lately, but if you have a chance stop by and scroll down to a post called "Feeling Light Within..."
